Paris has the Eiffel Tower.
New York has the Statue of Liberty.
Brussels? Well, Brussels has the Manneken Pis.
It’s a fountain with a statue of a little statue of a boy. It has been in Brussels since 1619 and it’s replica can be found all over the city.
"How endearing," you must be thinking.
"What is the little boy doing?" you are probably asking.
Well….
um….
He’s peeing.
He is peeing into the fountain.
Endearing indeed.
Here’s one replica. My husband sees this and immediately says, “I dare you to drink it."
I mean really, how old is he?
Naturally, I double dog dared him back and then promptly ran off down the street before he could answer with a triple double decker dog dare- which obviously cannot be refused.
So this is Brussels. The capital of Belgium, it is a beautiful city full of what we all love about Europe: chocolate shops, bakeries, bars, cobblestoned streets, and beautiful buildings. I mean, really- what else do people want?
Now THAT was one well trained dog.
Naturally, we wanted to take a photo outside of the sausage shop.
One of the best things about being in Belgium? The fritteries. Little hole in the walls that sell a whole bunch of fried stuff. The fries, or frites as they call them, are nothing short of awesome. Here’s how they do their frites- with a huge dollop of mayo. It’s amazing. (Please disregard the random paper man)
Sooo…back to the Manneken Piss (literally translated Little Man Pee). Here’s a couple examples of how loved he is in Brussels:
I mean, really. Carved from chocolate?
And there he is for real. Honestly, you could walk right by the fountain and never notice him, it’s such a small fountain.
Honestly, i prefer this little man.
