Our final day in Provence

On our final day in Provence we mournfully meandered around Avignon (again, i know, but we really couldn’t get enough of the place) before heading off to take a drive through the countryside.

Our destination goal?  A little town called Roussillon.

Isn’t it beautiful?  Full of color, the town owes its many shades of red, yellow, and orange to the vast quantities of ochre rock that can be found in the area.

What is ochre you ask?  It is a type of rock that has been used for centuries as a natural dye.  One of the most famous ochre landmark is Ayers Rock, in Australia.

See the range in color?

The entire town is, like La Baux, built on the top of a mountain.  It is a fascinating location that we loved experiencing.
