On our second day in Scotland we spent most of our day in and around the Isle of Skye.
Right before crossing over to Skye we stopped by and saw Eilean Donan Castle. If it looks familiar it might be because it’s one of the most photographed castles in Scotland. It might also have something to do with the fact that it’s featured in the movies Entrapment, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and Made of Honor.
Here’s the only bridge linking the Isle of Skye to the mainland.
The Isle of Skye is absolutely gorgeous. Here’s a sampling of some of the photos I took:
One of the many random waterfalls.
Kilt Rock
As you can see, there were sheep everywhere.
And the lambs were ever so cute.
We ran across a few cows too…
But mostly sheep.
We stopped off at a really cute little coffee shop at one point-
Where Jake took the opportunity to educate us on the region.
"Did you know that penicillin, the television, the bicycle, AND raincoats were all invented by Scotts?"
Why no, Jake, I didn’t.
But I’ll be sure not to forget it.
A little side story:
One of the things we enjoyed the most about Scotland were the people. I have never come across a friendlier group of people than the Scots (they even beat the Irish). Strangers honestly wanted to know who you were and would make time to sit and hang out with you (and not in a creepy way). Here’s one example of how great they were: While we were in the afore mentioned cafe at Skye, the owner walks over and starts talking with us. Over the course of the conversation we mentioned that we had forgotten to bring any CDs for the trip. The sweet man goes to the back of the shop and burns us two of his favorite cds! His reasoning? "Because you can’t drive around Scotland without some music playing in the background!"
Even the dogs are friendlier! :)
That evening we loaded ourselves back into the car and headed off to Inverness for the night. Along the way we stopped by Loch Ness.
Double rainbow! (what does it mean?!)
Here we are with Loch Ness in the background.
And here is our map of the day:
1. Our B&B and Eilean Donan Castle
2. Isle of Skye (small red dots show some of the area we stopped at)
3. Loch Ness
4. Inverness- where we stayed the night
